Friends, family, and kind-hearted supporters,

We are reaching out to you today with heavy hearts, yet filled with hope and determination. As many of you know, our beloved mother, wife, sister, and friend to all, Kay Pearson, is facing the toughest fight of her life – stage 4 cancer. She is battling a rare form called Leiomyosarcoma, or LMS. This cancer forms in the smooth muscles of the body and is known to be very fast-growing and aggressive. Despite the research that has been made over the years, its cause is still unknown and there is no existing cure.

Kay is currently battling a softball-sized tumor in her abdomen, with multiple lesions on the lungs, and a small tumor near her spinal cord. Her cancer treatment has consisted of chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and alternative medicine therapies consisting of high-dose vitamin C and alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) infusions, as well as ozone therapy and acupuncture thus far. Because of the poor prognosis associated with sarcomas, we have been told Kay will never get to be completely “cancer-free,” but rather, best case scenario, she can co-exist with this cancer and have a good quality of life, should she continue to receive the appropriate therapies to keep the tumors under control.

Despite this journey just beginning, the medical bills and financial commitment towards these therapies have proven to accumulate quickly. While we are fortunate enough to have reliable health insurance, all of the alternative medicine is not a part of its coverage. Because Kay’s livelihood depends on this combination of medical practices, we know these uninsured expenses will be a lifelong financial burden in battling this terminal illness. In hopes of financially managing this new reality of ours, we are launching an annual "Kay’s Miracle" fundraiser to reduce the financial burden on our family. Our goal of $15,000 will help us immensely over the next 12 months with Kay’s cancer care that is not covered by insurance.
