Hope For Jeffery: Battling Cancer

Donation protected
In mid December 2017, Jeffery Huskins was diagnosed with cancer, a VERY agressive cancer. With practically no physical warning or any telltale signs, he and his family were suddenly faced with the kind of news that no one wants to hear.
His wife, Shirley, was devastated. She tried to keep this horrible news from their two young sons, Alex and Andy. She wanted to learn more, to know more about Jeffery's condition before she spoke to them. Christmas was less than two weeks away and this is not how she wanted them to remember one of their favorite holidays. Children are intuitive and they knew something was wrong. Eventually and separately, each one asked her to be honest and tell them exactly what was going on. They were hurt and sad and they wanted their daddy to be well again. Since finding out, they have been by Jeffery's side constantly. They have been his willing helpers and they have been amazing.
At the exact moment when Jeffery received his diagnosis, the cancer was at stage 4. It was in his prostate and had spread to his liver and kidneys. That same day he was immediately admitted to the hospital in Cary, NC. He met with an Oncologist and his team. They were determined to come up with a plan to save Jeffery as he was looking at a life span of only two weeks.
Jeffery spent the next two weeks in the hospital receiving chemo and many other medications to help with all of the health issues caused by the cancer. He was released and sent home along with a hospital bed and many other medical supplies and equipment that he would need.
The doctor's current plan of action is for Jeffery to be admitted back into the hospital every three weeks for three days. At those times he will receive an experimental chemo as the normal will not help in treating this agressive cancer. He will have a total of six treatments with six individual hospital stays. Once that is completed, tests will be given to check the status of the cancer. Everything being done for Jeffery, from this point on, will be experimental. He has had one round of this type of chemo. He seems to be tolerating it fairly well with the exception of experiencing more nausea than usual and of course, he's weak.
Jeffery is taking this journey down a long, hard road. He is a fighter. He wants to live. He wants to see his boys grow into men but he's also made his peace with God. One of his major worries is leaving Shirley and the boys alone.
I have personally witnessed the outpouring of kindness and giving to this family. Friends making sure Jeffery gets to the hospital for treatments and bringing him back home. Friends taking the boys out for a day or taking them to their homes. Friends cooking and delivering meals, buying groceries, cleaning their home and so much more.
Unfortunately, Jeffery is taking a lot of medications at home that are not fully covered or not covered at all by insurance. There are copayments galore that must be paid up front and the hospital stays with the treatments are financially draining as well. Jeffery has blood clots in his lungs and the medication for that is extremely expensive and is paid out of pocket at the moment.
Friends, these are proud people who were always on the giving end, not the receving. I understand that setting up this page will be a hard pill for both of them to swallow but sometimes we have to ask for help. This is one of those times. I also know that Jeffery and Shirley would be the ones donating to others in this same situation if they were in a position to do so.
Let's help Jeffery and his family on this difficult journey. No amount is too small and every donation will be greatly appreciated. (Any donations given will go directly to the family as they are the beneficiary of this page) I realize that times are tight and if you cannot help them monetarily, please say a prayer for this family.

Thank You & God Bless
