Hope for Jas White

Dogs have a funny way of bringing people together.  My daily walk in the park with my puppy, led us to Jas White and his new puppy, Nushka.  It was hard to miss a young man in a wheelchair with a little Husky, that eventually would become his “sledchair” dog!

Over time I learned how Jas ended up in his wheelchair.  Five years ago, he went back to his hometown of Scotts Bluff, NE during the holidays.  During that visit, he was a victim of an accidental gun shooting.  Although it was an accident, it was caused by negligence with a firearm.  The man that shot him was using his firearm unsafely.

Jas is a talented musician, which saved his life.  He was playing his guitar when the gun fired and went through the guitar before it passed through his body.  Unfortunately, the bullet hit his spine, which paralyzed him for life.  If it hadn’t been for the guitar, he wouldn’t be here today.  As for the man that shot him, he suffered no legal or financial consequences.

It’s been a long struggle for Jas, adjusting to life in a wheelchair from the age of 26.  He still suffers from constant neurological pain.  Psychologically, he’s had to accept and let go of his feelings towards his shooter.  The unremorseful attitude from this man has been the hardest part for him.  Being forced to deal with these difficult feelings has led him in a new direction in life.  Eventually, Jas would like to help others with their struggles and become a therapist.  His personal experience, healing and good outlook on life would be a perfect fit for becoming an excellent role model for guiding others back to living their life to the fullest.

Financially, it’s been extremely hard to live on disability/social security of $750. /mo.  Before the accident, Jas had a good job working in Parks & Rec for the City of Loveland.  It was a perfect fit, being an active, outdoorsman.  His family has helped him maintain his independence, but his needs exceed his income.

I’m asking for donations to help Jas with his rent and tuition expenses.  His income barely covers his rent.  His dream to become a therapist and become self-sufficient will give him hope for tomorrow.

There are many worthy charities, but putting a face with your donation and knowing how much it helps, makes giving more meaningful.   Your donation will help Jas know there are good people in this world, to make up for the person that put him in a wheelchair and walked away without looking back.

You have the power to help Jas restore his hope and faith in this world.  Please find it in your heart to help my friend, Jas White.
