Hope for Holly- Her Journey from Classroom to Chemotherapy
Donation protected
Hi all, my name is Genna, and I’m here reaching out on behalf of one of the most incredible people I know, my dear friend Holly Tomko (Mattern).
Holly and I met during our college days at King’s College, where we were classmates as History majors and roommates. From the moment we met, it was clear Holly was one-of-a-kind—a funny, compassionate, and fiercely loyal friend who instantly lights up any room she enters. Whether it’s with her sharp wit, her infectious laughter, or her unwavering support, Holly has always been someone you could count on 110%.
Now, Holly needs our help.
This past year, Holly was diagnosed with invasive duct A1 carcinoma triple negative breast cancer—a diagnosis that has turned her and her family’s world upside down. She has had to take a leave of absence from her job as a beloved Middle School Social Studies teacher at Saint Clare/Saint Paul School in Scranton, PA, to undergo frequent and grueling medical treatments. While fighting this battle, she continues to be a devoted wife to her loving husband Rob and an extraordinary mom to their three beautiful children: Rosalie, Amelia, and John.
No matter how tough her treatments are or how exhausted she feels, Holly still shows up for her family. She’s there cheering on Rosalie at youth cheer leading events, supporting Amelia’s Irish Step Dancing, and making memories with little John. She puts her family’s needs before her own, even on the hardest days.
Beyond her role as a mom and wife, Holly is a cornerstone of her community. She’s an active parishioner at Our Lady of Hope Church in Wilkes-Barre, PA, and a dedicated coach for the Swoyersville Sailors Youth Cheerleading team. Whether she’s in the classroom inspiring her students or on the sidelines cheering with her team, Holly’s passion for others shines through.
But right now, Holly and her family are facing a battle on multiple fronts.
Her treatments and time away from work have left them relying on a single income, and the weight of mounting medical bills is becoming overwhelming. Rob is doing everything he can to keep their family afloat, but there’s only so much one person can do.
That’s why we’re here—why I’m reaching out to all of you.
We’re asking for your support in any way you can give it. Every single donation, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference for Holly and her family. Your generosity will not only help alleviate the financial strain but will also give Holly the peace of mind to focus on what’s most important: healing and spending precious time with her family.
If you’re unable to donate, we completely understand, but we ask you to keep Holly in your thoughts and prayers—not just this holiday season but throughout her journey. Share her story with others who may be able to help. Let’s rally around this incredible woman who has given so much of herself to her family, friends, students, and community.
Holly is the type of person who shows up for others without hesitation. Let’s show her that she’s not alone in this fight. Together, we can help lighten her load and give her the strength and support she needs to keep going.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for taking the time to read, share, and contribute. Your kindness and compassion mean the world to Holly and her family.
With love and gratitude,
