Hope for Harry McLachlan- Bone Marrow Transplant

I want to tell you a little about our nephew Harrison (Harry), he is a fun-loving 4 year old boy with the kindest heart, he’s caring, friendly and always makes people smile.

Last year, only a few days after his 3rd birthday Harry went into septic shock and suffered multi-organ failure. It was after this that he was diagnosed with Chronic Granulomatous Disease, a primary immunodeficiency that leaves him extremely vulnerable to the environment.

Natural Bacteria and Fungi found everywhere in the environment, typically harmless to you or I can be potentially fatal to Harry, as discovered when he was almost lost in July last year. The only cure for his condition is for him to undergo a Bone Marrow Transplant which involves chemotherapy to wipe out his entire immune system and replace it.

After a difficult year of keeping Harry safe, many subsequent hospitalisations and healing his body from the traumatic episode in July, he is now able to proceed with a bone marrow transplant and fortunately has a donor with a stem cell match from overseas.

Rachelle, Bevan, Harrison & Delilah (2yo) wish to keep their family together as much as possible during this time and will need to relocate from Newcastle to Sydney for this treatment for a period of at least 4 months and extended period of isolation in and out of hospital.

Typical accommodation options around the hospital such as Ronald McDonald house are not an option due to the need to isolate to prevent any sources of infection or illness which could be life threatening during this time. This is going to create a difficult financial strain due to the cost of living down there whilst still having a mortgage to cover back home.
