Hope for Hama
Can you help me do a good deed?
Hama High School is a catholic boarding school in Chirumanzi in the midlands region of Zimbabwe. It has approximately 400 students of which about 290 are boarding students.
As a former student of the school it is upsetting to see that the school has fallen into disrepair which can have a negative impact on the children affecting their sense of security and their physical and mental wellbeing. I have fond memories of my childhood there and want to ensure that children can learn and grow in a safe and inspiring environment in the same way I did in my youth. Therefore I am keen to help the school improve the quality of the infrastructure so that it can provide current students with the best possible education like it used to in the past.
The economic hardship in Zimbabwe has impacted the maintenance of the school buildings and infrastructure to such an extent its negatively affecting the educational development of students. The photos below of the hostels fence and toilet facilities show an example of how poor the infrastructure at the school is.
I have been in discussions with the Priest in Charge at the school who has stated the following as his priority;
1. The security fence in the girls’ hostels has been damaged and thieves and vandals can easily get into the girls’ hostels.
2. The toilets are in a very poor state as there is no functioning water cistern system in the girls’ toilets.
3. Request for laptops (old or new) which we can use in the library building or computer department.
We are therefore kindly asking for donations to be used towards improving these facilities.
Along with a few of my friends and colleagues who have kindly volunteered their time, our aim is to visit Zimbabwe and undertake charity work at the school in April this year. Your donations will be used to source materials and resources required to renovate the school. We will work with the Priest in Charge at the school to ensure there is full accountability of all donations.
