Our family had some unexpected news this past month. My cousin Haley went to urgent care because she was having a hard time breathing. They then sent her to Strong where they found a tumor in her lung that’s 2 centimeters. They did a biopsy and unfortunately it came back that it is cancer. They have no idea what caused it. They treated her for pneumonia because she had an infection in her lung and it was collapsing. After a week in Strong hospital and many tests they determined in order for her to survive they have to remove her entire lung. She is having a PET scan to determine if there are other spots and if not she will be cancer free after the removal of her left lung. This is a high risk surgery so they have continued to test her to ensure her right lung and heart can handle the surgery and continue to support her afterwards. Surgery is the 15th of February and recovery will be quite extensive. Haley has gone back to work in order to help with the rapidly accumulating medical expenses for now. Unfortunately insurance only pays a portion of these costly procedures/surgery, hospital stays and tests.
