Dear friends and family,
We are reaching out to you today with a heavy heart and a plea for support. Our mom, Gretchen Leger Donham, is facing an immense challenge as she battles against stage 4 colon cancer. Everything happened so quick. She was admitted on Friday for a CT because she was experiencing pain, and they discovered a tumor on her colon, which had spread to other locations. She was rushed into emergency surgery on Sunday night because her colon perforated, and they told us she wasn't going to make it through the night, and then she did! Then they told us the doctors had little to no faith she was going to make it to noon on the next day, and then she did! Mom has shown incredible courage and unwavering optimism thus far.
If you are unable to contribute financially, she would love if people would continue sending kind words, paying a visit, prayers, and positive thoughts to uplift our mom’s spirits during this trying time.
Many of you know our mom from her years as a public-school teacher and as the founder of Summit Christian Academy Homeschool. You may also know her from her years spent screaming in the bleachers supporting us in whatever goals the 4 of us were trying to accomplish. She has always been our biggest cheerleader and now its our turn to be hers. Even though our ages are 24 ,16, 14, and 11, and being at different stages of life, we are all still very much at a place where we need our mom. She has dedicated her life impacting the lives of her students. However, the fight against this devastating disease comes with substantial financial burdens. As treatments, medical bills, and necessary lifestyle adjustments add up, it has become increasingly challenging for her to focus on their recovery without worrying about the mounting expenses. Our goal with this fundraiser is to alleviate some of the financial stress and enable our mom to solely concentrate on her healing. The funds raised will be utilized for various purposes, including:
1. Medical Expenses: Covering the costs of chemotherapy, surgeries, medications, consultations, and follow-up appointments.
2. Alternative Therapies: Exploring holistic treatments, complementary therapies, and nutritional support to enhance her well-being and aid in their recovery.
3. Home Care and Adaptations: Ensuring a comfortable and safe environment by making necessary modifications to their living space, such as installing handrails or ramps.
4. Emotional Support: Assisting mom in accessing counseling or support groups to help them navigate the emotional challenges that accompany a cancer diagnosis.
5. Living Expenses: Helping with day-to-day costs, such as rent, utilities, groceries, and transportation, to alleviate the financial strain during this period.
