Hi, my name is Marites Reyes, and I’m raising funds for my brother, Regie Manalili, a hardworking father of three who is currently in the ICU after undergoing emergency brain surgery due to a blood clot caused by hypertension.
Regie is only 35 years old. He has always been a dedicated father and a selfless son — supporting not only his own family but also helping provide for our mother’s maintenance medication.
It all began on what was supposed to be a joyful day—his daughter’s recognition ceremony. Regie was full of energy and happiness, especially after hearing the good news that his high school daughter had received high grades. While preparing to go to work, he suddenly felt dizzy and decided to rest. His wife went ahead to accompany their children to school. But when she returned, she found Regie vomiting and unresponsive. They rushed him to the nearest public hospital, but sadly, there were no available ICU beds. They had no choice but to transfer him to a private hospital, where doctors found his Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score was only 4—an extremely low level of consciousness. The doctor advised immediate intubation and further scans revealed a blood clot in his brain.
Given his critical state and low GCS score, the surgeon was initially hesitant to operate due to the low survival rate. But by God’s grace, and because Regie is only 35 years old, the doctor decided to take the risk. Miraculously, Regie survived the operation and regained consciousness. However, new bleeding was found in his brain. The doctors administered a medication to dissolve the remaining clots and help drain the blood naturally. Thankfully, the treatment worked, and the bleeding gradually subsided.
Regie is still in the ICU, slowly recovering. It’s been over three weeks, and only recently was he taken off intubation. He still cannot speak, as his throat is healing from the procedure. We continue to hope and pray each day for the moment we can hear his voice again.
Regie has always put his family first — working tirelessly to provide a better life for his children and helping those around him in any way he could. Now that he’s in the hospital, it feels as though his family has lost a limb — he is their sole breadwinner, and his absence has left them not only emotionally shaken but also financially vulnerable.
Now, another challenge lies ahead: therapy. Despite still being in the ICU, doctors have advised that Regie needs to begin physical therapy as soon as possible. There is a high risk that if his partial paralysis is not addressed within 6 months to a year, his condition could become permanent. Early intervention is crucial for his chances of full recovery.
As a family, we are doing everything we can to support him emotionally and financially, but the burden has become too much for us to carry alone. As of now, our hospital bill has already exceeded £13000, and the hospital has asked us to settle part of the outstanding balance despite Regie still being confined.
Regie does have medical insurance, but it does not fully cover his current hospital bills or the ongoing therapy and treatment he will need after discharge. The road to recovery is still long, and we need your help.
We are knocking on your generous hearts to help us through this very difficult time. Any amount, no matter how small, will make a big difference. Your kindness and compassion will go a long way in helping Regie recover, and in lifting some of the heavy burden we carry as a family.
On behalf of our entire family—especially his wife and their three children—thank you so much for taking the time to read our story and for any help you can extend. May God bless you abundantly in return.
