Hope for Eddie

Little Eddie was born at just 36 weeks via emergency C-section to his loving parents, Ashley and Alistair, and his proud big brother, Henry. From the very beginning, Eddie has faced an uphill battle. He was first admitted to the NICU with low blood sugar and elevated liver enzymes. Shortly after, he was transferred to McMaster Children’s Hospital, where he was diagnosed with Gestational Alloimmune Liver Disease (GALD)- a rare and serious condition in which the mother’s immune system mistakenly attacks the baby’s developing liver, causing neonatal liver failure.

Since his diagnosis, Eddie has undergone multiple treatments, including IVIG and a blood exchange. Despite his fragile start, he’s shown incredible strength and resilience. However, he still faces the possibility of a liver transplant. His journey now continues at SickKids Hospital in Toronto, where the family is anxiously awaiting transfer for the next stage of his care.

With Alistair taking a leave from work to support Ashley and be present for Eddie, and with Henry still needing love and care at home, the family has had to make significant sacrifices to stay together through this crisis.
