Support Pediatric Brain Stroke Healing

Donation protected
My name is Vanessa and I am raising funds to support my nine-year-old son, Dylan. Earlier this year, Dylan suffered a stroke, and we learned he was born with a rare condition called an arteriovenous malformation (AVM). At the end of July, he underwent Gamma Knife radiation, beginning an eight-year healing process. He now faces annual MRIs, with major angiogram surgeries at the one-year and three-year marks, and he still lives with a 25 percent risk of stroke.

We live in Crescent City, which means long daily drives just to get Dylan to school and hours on the road to UCSF for his specialized care. Safe, reliable transportation is essential, along with healthy food, daily health supports, recovery therapies, and tools that bring him comfort when symptoms flare. A swim pass will also give him a safe, low-impact way to stay active during recovery.

I am asking for support to cover one year of Dylan’s most urgent needs. With your support, Dylan’s journey can be met with greater stability, comfort, and hope for the year ahead.

Dylan’s Journey

Dylan is a remarkable child. Even while navigating headaches, fevers, and fatigue, he continues to show courage and resilience. His story has already reached our local fire department, who are using it to raise awareness about pediatric strokes. His strength inspires me daily and reminds me that this journey is not just about survival but about building a foundation for his healing.

Why We’re Asking for Support

Dylan’s condition requires consistent medical care and stability at home. The distances we travel for his schooling and treatment make reliable transportation a lifeline. Beyond that, his recovery depends on healthy food, electrolytes, supplements, and therapies to reduce inflammation and support his healing.

I am also working to grow my healing arts practice and serve in community projects that support families and youth. That is part of what will sustain us in the future, but right now, I need help to secure the basics for Dylan so I can keep showing up fully as his mother and caregiver.

What Your Support Will Cover
   •   Safe transportation for daily school drives and long trips to UCSF
   •   Nutritious food and clean water to support Dylan’s recovery
   •   Daily health essentials like electrolytes and supplements
   •   Recovery therapies and comfort items, including cooling sheets and a wheelchair for emergencies
   •   A swim pass to give Dylan a safe, healing outlet for activity
   •   Helpful technology if funds allow, for added safety and monitoring

Our Goal

This campaign is about giving Dylan one year of stability, healing, and strength. The funds raised will directly provide the care, comfort, and tools that make his recovery possible.

Every donation helps lighten this journey. If you cannot give financially, sharing this campaign is another meaningful way to support us.

Thank you for standing with us and helping Dylan step into this year with greater stability and hope.
