Devan is a young woman that just turned 22. She is 5’2’ tall and weighs all of 80 pounds. For nearly half of her short life she has been battling life altering illnesses. The worst of it came 2 years ago when she suffered her first seizure and fell face first in to a campfire. Devan was airlifted by STARS and remained in a coma for several days. The complications of these events have left her with several serious physical and mental health challenges, but the most significant is Gastroparesis, which means her stomach is paralyzed and does not digest food. The doctors believe it was caused by the many medications she was prescribed following her recent accident. However, the doctors have been unable to find any cure, treatment or pain relief for Devan except for narcotics which provides little if any comfort to the extreme pain she is in as she continues to starve.
Every morning when Devan wakes up she is met with excruciating pain which continues throughout the day, with little or no relief available.
Devan’s Mom, Laurie, and Dad, Doug work tirelessly to fund the tens of thousands of dollars of bills and do whatever they can to try to keep their daughter alive and comfortable, let alone to find a cure.
In addition to Devan not being well enough to work, the expenses that are not covered by insurance add up quickly. With experimental drugs, a strict organic diet, monthly scans, weekly acupuncture for pain, supplements, long distance travel to specialists, and frequent long hospital stays with endless parking costs, monthly bills can often add up to $2700/ month. In addition, at Devan was diagnosed with Type One diabetes, doing insulin injections at least 5 times daily. She has had 3 reconstructive knee surgeries in 2 years and suffers from a personality disorder called cluster B personality disorder which causes a significant amount of anxiety and depression.
The scariest part is that Devan has been living with so many unknowns for years. The doctors can’t say she needs a specific treatment, that it costs this much, or how long she has. She doesn’t know how much worse can it get or whether it will it ever get better. Despite all of this, Devan still has hope and fight in her to find the answers, get well and return to a normal life, but she and her family need help to find the answers.
We ask that you give in whatever way you can, prayer, good vibes or find what ever you can to give to Devan and her family. Thank you for your generosity!
