Hi, my name is Charmaigne Hope Biera, and I’m reaching out with a heavy heart to ask for your help. I am the daughter of Carmelito Biera and I’m hoping you will join me in supporting my father during a very difficult time.
I work as a registered nurse here in Burton, United Kingdom, where I live with my husband and two young children. My family and I are on a Skilled Worker Visa, and as a way of showing my love and gratitude, I was able to sponsor my parents to visit us in August 2024. It’s been such a blessing to have them here with us, and they were supposed to fly back to the Philippines in January 2025.
However, on 19 December 2024, during a day trip in London, my father began to complain of difficulty breathing. We rushed him to King’s London College Hospital, where he was diagnosed with pulmonary edema, secondary to heart failure, pleural effusion, and a left kidney mass. He was immediately admitted to the ICU, where the daily cost of care is approximately £3,500 as per overseas department of King's London College Hospital (P250k in Philippine Peso). After 5 days in the ICU, he’s now been moved to a regular ward, but his condition remains serious and there is still uncertainty as to when he will be discharged from the hospital. Unfortunately, as tourists in the UK, they are not covered by the National Health Service, and while I bought travel insurance for them, it has proven to be insufficient to cover the full cost of his treatment.
While we are relieved that my father is no longer in the ICU, the financial burden of his care is overwhelming (hospital costs, daily expenses, etc). I am reaching out to ask for your generosity and support to help us cover the costs of his medical treatment here.
Any donation, no matter how small, will make a profound difference and help us ensure that my father receives the care he needs in this critical time. Your kindness would not only help ease the financial strain but also bring him closer to home where he can continue his recovery surrounded by family.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read our story, and for keeping my father in your thoughts and prayers. Your support means everything to us.
Merry Christmas!
With heartfelt gratitude,
Charmaigne Hope Biera
