Hope for Caleb #keepfighting
Donation protected
On February 2nd, Caleb, then 19, was shot over a dozen times, 6 directly to the chest and 1 that resulted in a broken neck. Currently, Caleb is paralyzed from right below the shoulder blade down. He is a
quadriplegic. Right now, He’s lacks the ability to use either of his hands or feet.
As time draws nearer for us to live our new norm as it relates to Caleb’s life changing injuries, we feel a tad bit anxious but yet hopeful.
After being denied by 19 rehabilitation centers and 10 skilled facilities, we’ve made the decision to be discharged home.
Caleb’s journey has been one of courage and resilience. Despite the challenges he has faced, and will face, his spirit remains unbroken. It is a reality that his current living environment is not adequately equipped.
Though needs will change over time, we are most in need of a Bariatric low air loss mattress that will continue to prevent him from having skin breakdown that will cause bed sores. The cost of the bed is about $3,000 in which his insurance will not cover this pricey item. Also of high importance, due to the nature of his injuries, he will spend 99% of his time in his room. For this reason, he’ll need voice activated accessories to control his lights, tv, radio, fan and any other things that will allow him to be as independent as possible.
I’ve also reached out for someone to give his room a make over so that the time spent in it will not be a bore.
This is so hard for me and I don’t understand a lot of it however, I’m going to keep the faith and pray for strength as we navigate this new way of living.
I am asking that you donate whatever amount you desire to help with the Hope for Caleb #keepfight campaign. All proceeds will go towards making the necessary adjustments for Caleb.
I don’t have the words to express my appreciation for how y’all have shown up for us during this time, but it has meant the world to us. Thanks for all of the ways y’all have shown up. I love y’all dearly!
