It is with very heavy and humble hearts that our family is reaching out for help. Never in our wildest dreams did we imagine we would be in such a difficult situation, but we are truly living a nightmare.
On August 2nd, our beloved senior chihuahua, Barley, was attacked by a pit bull while he out for his evening walk with my husband, Kellen. The attacking dog lacerated Barley's shoulder and fractured his scapula, and that's just what we know so far. Barley is truly fighting for his life.
After two nights in the emergency vet over the weekend, he was transferred to our vet, who knows how strong of a warrior he is. She recommended that we get specialty trauma care 4 hours from our home, which is where we are now.
Those of you who have met Barley know that he is a special little guy. He has conquered so many challenges and thrived. He was a runner up in our community's Dog of the Year competition, fundraising for emergency care for shelter animals in 2023. He is truly a warrior. He doesn't want to give up, so we can't give up on him. He is our family, our only child. And he wants to get back to living his best life.
In addition to the shock, sadness, and anger that we are feeling, we are also now facing the crushing expenses of his care. If you have it in your heart and budget to support our little warrior, we would be eternally grateful. We've devoted our life to helping others, and will continue to pay it forward for the rest of our lives. We are truly humbled.
If a donation is not the right choice for you, we understand, and are grateful that you took the time to read our story. Please keep our little family in your thoughts.
