Hope for Baby Taliyah

Let me introduce myself… I’m a sister, I’m a daughter, I’m a wife, I’m Veterinary Nurse but my most important title is being a mother to Taylen my four year old daughter & soon to be mother to baby Taliyah. We were very excited to learn of our expectancy back in April. As with all mother’s finding out that they’re pregnant there was great joy & anticipation. As we began to prepare for Taliyah’s future, I was not prepared for what was revealed to us at the 20 week anatomy scan. To my shock & dismay learning that the child I was carrying, Taliyah was diagnosed with Truncus Arteriosus. Less than 1 out of 10,000 live births are diagnosed with this. It is considered a very rare genetic disorder. Upon learning about this we were told of the multiple heart surgeries & therapies that Taliyah would have to receive. My heart began to grieve for all the hopes & dreams that I had for Taliyah. Now with multiple visits per week to specialists to check on her we were very grateful to find out that she doesn’t have Truncus Arteriosus. She has an Aterial Septal Defect & Aortic Valve Stenosis which will still require multiple open heart surgeries but we are so grateful that the treatment has a better prognosis.
