WHEN A NORMAL DAY TURNS INTO THE WORST
Winter in Queensland is beautiful, but it brings with it the flu & many other viral infections we see changing each year. So to be careful, you book your usually happy, incredibly flirty baby a visit to the doctor to get the symptoms checked, maybe get some antibiotics and a blood test. All normal right?
Wrong. This was not to be for my friends Courtney and Alec Godinet and their precious 14 month old baby boy Boston.
That normal day, turned into their worst, when on 5th August 2024, they discovered Boston was not suffering the flu. The routine blood test confirmed a devastating diagnosis, when the doctor said “I’m so sorry but Boston has Cancer, Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.”
Within the whirlwind of the first hours of diagnosis, Boston had started his chemotherapy sessions, steroid treatment, had blood & platelet transfusions, multiple surgeries, a feeding tube inserted, a permanent pick-line attached, multiple medications administered and round the clock medical care.
4 weeks in and the on-going medical treatment is relentless. ALL is a quick progressing cancer, so the treatment is aggressive - Chemotherapy weekly, flushing and fluid transfers, steroid and drug injections, bone marrow and spinal fluid biopsies requiring General anesthetic for Boston as he is so little still. He can’t get an infection so this means he can’t visit the park and he can’t play with his friends. Most days he is tired & not feeling himself and the look of the people he needs to help him, scare him.
Boston needs his mum and dad more than ever, as they alone can provide the comfort he craves.
This is going to be a long, hard and expensive fight for Boston and so he, Courtney and Alec can concentrate on battling his broken little body, and finding his smile and giggling again. But that’s where you all come in. They say it takes a village to raise a child, but I think that village becomes a family when we can help to save that child. We can do some thing’s to help. We can take away some of the financial burden and allow Courtney and Alec the one small freedom they can control, to be there with their baby boy every step of the way. We can support them with words of encouragement and kindness and let them know we are keeping Boston in our thoughts and sending positive energy to them all.
Any donation, big or small, is appreciated and accepted, with more joy that you could possibly imagine, and Courtney and Alec are so thankful and truly overwhelmed with the kindness, love and support they have already received.
Boston told his aunty a message for you all.......
.......I know my mummy and daddy will never give up on me, so I promise with my whole heart, to fight with all the energy I can! My aunty will tell you how I’m feeling on here and when I get better, I am looking forward to hugs with everyone!
Love,
your little mate Boston (and mummy & daddy too....that’s Courtney and Alec)
