Hope for Ahsha

Donation protected
Hello dear friends,

This is a story about Hope. Ahsha is a beautiful, three-year old horse whose name literally means Hope in Cherokee. Ahsha is a sweet, playful, beautiful, old-soul who has been the embodiment of hope her entire life and especially so for her devoted human mother, Meagan.

Hope for a home
Ahsha was born in a breeding facility in Wyoming. Abandoned by her Mom, Ahsha faced challenges from the start. When she was posted for sale, for some reason, no one wanted her. This is inconceivable because she is one of the most beautiful and joyful fillies you have ever seen. She was offered for sale over and over. Someone started advertising her on Facebook. If no one bought her, Ahsha was going to go to auction. Auction is a place where far too often horses meet a fate worse than death. Ahsha just had to keep hoping that some kind of salvation would find its way to her.

Before the details for auction could be arranged, a friend of Meagan’s saw Ahsha on Facebook. Knowing that Meagan had planned to have a horse “someday” this friend mentioned it to her. One look at the photo of Ahsha and Meagan knew she had met her Heart Horse. Timelines and future plans and carefully thought-out agendas fell away. Meagan knew that the moment of someday was now. Transportation was arranged and Ahsha was found standing knee deep in manure. No one was taking proper care of her. This poor condition affected her immune system, but she stood there shining in her beauty and hoping for a brighter new life. She drove home to Colorado and met Meagan in person, and Hope bloomed for Ahsha!

Hope for life
In her new herd, Ahsha made many friends. She grew taller and taller with good nutrition and lots of space to roam free with her herd. At night when tucked into her paddock, she ate her hay nose to nose with her friend and paddock mate, King. They loved to fluff their hay and toss it around until it was just the right fluffy consistency to make for a lovely evening meal.

Ahsha grew in Hope, she grew in Beauty, and maintained her Hope through some unusual health issues that Meagan was dedicated to caring for in every way possible. Meagan’s view has always been that once you commit to an animal, that animal is your love and your responsibility for life, no matter what. This sentiment is one that shows the real guardianship, the real care and nurturing that we humans are meant to bring to these wonderful beings. We are meant to bring them Hope.

Hope in the hour of need
In March of this year, Ahsha somehow got significant cuts on her leg. The cuts became infected. This turned a treatments of wounds into a long and precarious health journey that had Ahsha fighting for her life. Ahsha had endured a raging infection that went into her bone, a swollen leg that has not touched the ground in over a month, pain throughout her body, massive inflammation, and a situation that has the entire team of doctors at the hospital without a clue as to how to proceed. She has been on oral antibiotics, IV antibiotics, among many other medicines and procedures. The extraordinary treatments and the hospital stay have already cost more than Meagan could have ever imagined.

The circumstances just described would have caused almost anyone to give up on life, but a most incredible thing happened: Ahsha. In the midst of all of these challenges, Ahsha showed her hope and her determination to sustain life and in the most miraculous way. Meagan is able to perceive a path forward filled with hope and love. In spite of ever-changing thoughts, feelings, and a flurry of human opinions going around about agendas and assumptions and statistics and doubt, Hope is currently prevailing. Ahsha has shown us over and over that though tired and in pain, she has a strong enough will to continue to overcome the difficulties and that her healing could be possible. She is asking us for it! She is asking us to advocate for her and to be the voice for her that drowns out all other voices of doubt and fear. She is asking for her life to be acknowledged and supported while she battle for her life. There is a bigger picture of what this episode means in the larger view of her long life, and she is asking for humans to step up on behalf of that higher story.

Hope for healing
Ahsha has a strong heart, a radiant life force that keeps showing itself and asking for someone to invest in her. I can write this because I witnessed it with my own eyes. When doctors stood over her describing her death and expressing doubts and opinions, Ahsha would turn her face away and literally shed a couple of tears. Tears streamed out of her eyes at those times that never happened at any other time. This was something altogether different than watery eyes. Horses understand absolutely everything that is said over them, and Ahsha needed champions to support her commitment to live. Ahsha needs champions of her Hope. Ahsha needs new and different treatments, she needs someone to observe her strength and determination, she needs someone to bring a vision for what was possible and to help bring together all the elements of her treatment team. And so her humans responded.

Hope is a funny thing. It is its own kind of magnet. Where Hope exists amazing things start to come together. As Meagan is determined to support Ahsha’s life, a cavalry of Hope continues to arrive. One offered a free place for Ahsha to live. Team members offered support at Meagan’s job. Others showed up to sit with Ahsha, to make sure Ahsha had love and company and laughter, to observe Ahsha’s response to treatments, to see things differently, and to tell Ahsha the good news that bodies can and do heal.

With Meagan leading the cavalry, the team wrapped Ahsha in mental pictures and even printed pictures hung throughout Ahsha’s stall. Pictures of vitality, wholeness, movement, and joy! The cavalry has been there to help with the practical details of Ahsha’s care, helping her with eating and drinking, moving her out of her continually dark stall into the warmth of the sunshine. And yes, even to help by fluffing Ahsha’s hay!

Miraculously, this cavalry of Hope grew to include a healing practitioner who treats bodies at the deepest cellular level. Ahsha has responded tremendously to these treatments. While not consistent, Ahsha’s swelling is reduced and she is showing some progress in using her leg. Ahsha needs daily treatments, and it takes a group of people to coordinate these treatments. The treatments are working but we need to keep the momentum of healing going!  Most importantly, Ahsha’s hopeful spirit is soaring. When her cavalry arrives each day they shout out their greeting to Ahsha the moment they get to the property, and Ahsha lets loose the most exuberant whinnie in reply! She is just so grateful that people have arrived who can help her. The spark of Life thrives in connection with other living beings, it needs help and it needs Hope and Ahsha needs you right now.

Hope for support
It is worth sharing with you that above and beyond the miracle of support for Ahsha, witnessing this team of support has been an astounding experience for Meagan. Meagan had some challenging experiences early in life and she did not have all the supports that most people think of as routine. She has turned to an inner quality of self-reliance to navigate through life. There must have been times in life when hope and support seemed far away. Meagan didn’t know then that one day she would have Ahsha and the life-changing element of support that Ahsha (hope) would bring.

This cavalry of support that arrived for Ahsha arrived in support of Meagan too, and we need your help to support the medical costs Ahsha requires for the full renewal and restoration of her amazing being. Ahsha will need multiple ongoing treatments, medications/supplements and if the time comes physical therapy. She will need special accommodations as she recovers and heals and gains enough strength to be with other horses again. Her story of healing will be a long one, but can be a victorious one.

Please donate to support Meagan, to support Ahsha, and to support life!

Hope in you
If you have ever had an animal, if you know inside your heart what it is for a little girl to love her horse and if you have that little child in you still, please contribute to Ahsha’s healing.

If you believe in Hope that prevails over Life’s greatest challenges, if you believe that Hope is alive in the midst of the most difficult hour, please donate to Ahsha’s care.

If you hold Hope in your Heart that humans may yet step up into real guardianship for all sentient life, please become part of Ahsha’s story.

If you believe that a little girl who did not have tons of Hope that life would support her can be transformed by the example of a horse who embodies Hope and learn to receive support herself, please express your belief by offering financial support to that now grown-up little girl who is the mother of four-legged Hope!

If you believe that Hope is an act of Love, an action that is more than concept, please share your Hope with Ahsha.

Ahsha has the kind of Heart that gives Hope to humans. Please join in her herd and make it possible for Meagan to cover the costs of her Healing so that Ahsha’s active Hope and radiant aliveness can be supported on every level. And donate so that you can come to meet Ahsha, to spend time with her and brush her, to tell her your own story of Hope and to celebrate the victory of that Hope for Ahsha and for all of us.

This is a story about Hope, and you are a vital part of that Hope!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

With love and gratitude from Ahsha’s herd. Here’s to Hope!
