Hello, my name is Jaqueline Marbán Marbán. I am a middle school teacher from Guerrero, Mexico, and the mother of Moisés, a baby who has faced serious health challenges since birth.
Moisés was born on February 1st, 2024, and from his very first months of life, he began experiencing multiple medical complications. These conditions required immediate and ongoing medical attention. Among his diagnoses are congenital glaucoma, severe visual impairment, speech and language delay, developmental delays, and other health issues that require continuous and specialized care.
In order to provide my son with the medical attention he urgently needs, I have had to travel repeatedly from Guerrero to Mexico City, where most of his specialists are located. Moisés has been treated by pediatric glaucoma specialists, neurologists, cardiologists, orthopedic doctors, geneticists, rehabilitation specialists, phoniatrics (speech and language specialists), and many others. He has undergone surgeries, medical studies, therapies, and requires constant medication and follow-up.
Recently, we received difficult news regarding his glaucoma. Despite previous treatments and surgery, the intraocular pressure in his left eye has increased significantly and is currently measuring 43 mmHg. Due to this, his medical team has determined that he will need to undergo a second surgery, a procedure called trabeculotomy, in an effort to lower the pressure and help preserve his vision. This surgery is scheduled for July 6, 2026, and represents another critical step in his ongoing fight to protect his eyesight.
Following the surgery, I am hoping to remain in Mexico City for approximately one month because his postoperative appointments will be scheduled very close together. Staying nearby will allow him to receive immediate medical attention if complications arise and will help ensure that his recovery is closely monitored by his specialists. This situation makes our circumstances even more challenging, especially because I am solely responsible for finding a way to cover every expense related to his care.
In addition, it is very likely that his doctors will need to adjust or change some of the medications he receives after surgery, which may result in additional medical expenses during his recovery period.
As a public school teacher, my income was not sufficient to cover the high cost of all these medical expenses. Faced with the urgency of protecting my son’s health and development, I had no choice but to take out a payroll loan to cover medical appointments, treatments, medications, and transportation. Unfortunately, the loan interests now consume almost my entire paycheck, leaving me with very limited resources for daily living expenses.
It is very difficult for me to share this situation, and I do so with humility and honesty. Any donation, no matter how small, would mean an enormous help in allowing me to stabilize financially and continue providing the medical care my son needs.
Thankfully, after much effort and sacrifice, some of Moisés’ specialists have begun to discharge him, which gives us hope. My greatest wish is for my son to come through his upcoming surgery safely, to experience as few complications as possible from congenital glaucoma, and to preserve his vision and quality of life for the future. I also hope to regain financial stability, overcome the debt that accumulated while seeking the medical care he needs, and provide him with a dignified life filled with opportunities, support, and hope. recover financially, overcome this debt, and provide my son with a dignified life without being overwhelmed by financial burdens.
I also want to share transparently that Moisés’ father has not been emotionally or financially involved in his care for over a year, despite being fully aware of our son’s medical condition. This lack of support has significantly contributed to my financial hardship. Starting a legal process also requires resources and emotional strength that have been difficult to obtain.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for taking the time to read our story, for sharing it, and for any support you can offer. Your help represents hope, relief, and strength as I continue fighting for my son’s health and future.
Medical reports and documentation are available upon request.
With endless gratitude,
Jaqueline & Moisés
