We are Fundación Vivatma (https://www.fundacionvivatma.org) a non-profit organization located in Tabio, Colombia. We have spent the last 15 years dedicated to protecting animals who are defenseless and abandoned.
Our purpose is clear:
to build a culture of love, respect, and peaceful coexistence with animals—especially for those who have been forgotten by society.
For years, we have focused on the most vulnerable dogs—those at the final stage of their lives, often facing serious and complex health conditions, including canine dementia.
A Hidden Reality: Canine Dementia
Canine Cognitive Dysfunction (CCD), commonly known as dog dementia, is a progressive neurological condition that affects aging dogs and causes mental decline due to changes in the brain.
- It is widely underdiagnosed and misunderstood, often mistaken for “normal aging.”
- It can impact a significant percentage of senior dogs, especially as they grow older.
- Dogs may become disoriented, anxious, withdrawn, or unable to recognize familiar places or routines.
- The condition is progressive and has no cure, but it can be managed with proper care and support.
These dogs are not “difficult” or “problematic.” They are confused, vulnerable, and in need of compassion.
At Fundación Vivatma, we stand beside those dogs when others walk away. We provide:
- A safe, warm, and stable environment where they are never alone
- Access to proper medical care to manage their condition and improve quality of life
- Cognitive and sensory stimulation, which can help slow the progression and keep them engaged
- Constant care, patience, and dignity in the final chapter of their lives
Because even when their memory fades, their capacity to feel love—and to be loved—remains.
Why Your Support Matters
Dogs with dementia don’t need more time. They need better time. With your support, we can:
- Extend and improve their quality of life
- Provide specialized treatment and daily care
- Ensure they are never alone in their final chapter
Fundación Vivatma operates without government funding, relying solely on donations and community support to continue our work. This is why your help is essential for us to continue this mission.
We need USD50 per month to provide basic shelter and food for each dog. Additional USD 200 per year help us cover yearly vaccinations and worm treatments. Depending on the case, some elderly dogs require special attention on dementia or cancer treatments. Costs vary but they can come up to USD 1000 to USD 5000 per case
