"Hope Beyond Limits: A Mother’s Journey"

️Meet the Nagano Family:

Mitsu, a loving father and provider is battling Stage 4 Metastatic Lung Adenocarcinoma, a formidable adversary that has taken root in his lungs and spread to his spine, brain, and, as of 3 weeks ago, his eyes. Marie, a devoted mother, navigates the complexities of life as a caregiver to her husband Mitsu, their seven-year-old son Rui, who has autism, cerebral palsy, and an intellectual disability, in addition to assisting via long-distance to her mother living in Japan, who has dementia and is a stroke victim (which subsequently caused her the inability to use her hands and move her shoulders).

Financial Struggle:

Marie’s full-time job is being the caretaker for her family. “Full-time” is an understatement between hospital, doctor, and emergency room visits for all members of her immediate family and their severe ailments. Since being a mother and caretaker is a non-revenue-generating role, Mitsu must still work to provide for his family. Unfortunately, because the cancer has now metastasized to his eyes, Mitsu can no longer drive, has severe headaches, and is constantly nauseated and vomiting. Therefore, every morning, he Ubers to his daily morning radiation appointments at the hospital, then Ubers to the family’s small business 18 miles away in Kailua, and at the end of the day, Mitsu must Uber home. The family can no longer afford to pay employees, and offers to buy the family business just aren’t coming in. While Mitsu is receiving radiation or at work, Marie is simultaneously driving her son to a public school for handicapped children, and various doctor and emergency room visits for other immediate family members. For Marie, it is a delicate dance between the challenges of caregiving for her entire immediate family and confronting her husband’s own mortality.

Mitsu is afraid of how his family will survive after his passing. The insurance company informed the Nagano family that the payout wouldn't last more than a year. It’s definitely not going to get any easier for Marie after his passing, and Mitsu is in utter despair about how his wife and son will survive after staggering financial burdens continue without him.

Hope Amidst Despair:

Yet, in the face of adversity, hope emerges. This crowdfunding campaign, "Hope Beyond Limits," seeks to extend the precious moments between Rui, Marie, and Mitsu. We ask that you please join us in this journey against metastatic lung adenocarcinoma and to keep the love between a father and son alive for as long as possible.
