At 23. I discovered a quarter size knot under my right armpit. I went to urgent care with my concern. The doctor tells me, “It’s definitely not cancer, you’re too young, it may just be an infection. So, just keep an eye on it”. So, I did. 4 months the knot has grown. I went to the emergency room to see if they would run some tests. I had to plead until they finally did a x-ray. It took several doctors before I was taken seriously. The x-ray showed that it was big in size. Still the doctor didn’t think it to be cancer. So, they scheduled a biopsy to confirm it was benign.
A week later, It’s February 2013. We are at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital on the cancer floor. So my mother and I are standing in front of an oncologist, extremely nervous waiting for the results. The doctor enters the room, apologizes and says I have cancer
I then had 14 lymph nodes removed and total removal of the tumor. Two surgeries later we hear it's Stage 3 breast cancer and it’s aggressive. Next, I had a mastectomy, chemotherapy, radiation and a year of hormone therapy. I had no family history due to adoption and no known cause for the cancer.
7 years later, January of 2020, I started to have high levels of pain in my right hip. I couldn't drive and barely walk. I went to the Emergency room and Urgent Care multiple times pleading to get a scan. It took 2 months before they finally did a MRI of my hip.
March of 2020, I have my yearly mammogram and breast MRI. The scans showed I was still in remission. I was happy. Two weeks later, I get my hip MRI results back. I then hear “I’m sorry Miss Johnson, your breast cancer has returned in your bones and we need to do a full body scan.”
Those results come back showing breast cancer metastasized in my hip, spine, liver and brain. I deal with chronic pain, chronic fatigue, headaches, memory problems and currently walk with a cane. I am no longer working due to the severity of my symptoms.
This Go Fund Me donation will go towards my medical bills and weekly holistic treatments. These holistic treatments will improve my quality of life and possibly lengthen my life span.
I appreciate you tremendously and I am grateful for your support.
