Animal experiments on beagles are also carried out here in Germany.
The cruelty inflicted on dogs in test laboratories knows no bounds. The animals are often abused in legally prescribed toxicity tests to determine the dose at which a substance has a toxic effect. In such toxicity tests, the animals are given test substances 1-3 times a day for either 28 (in most cases), 90 or 120 days. For this purpose, a tube is inserted through the throat and esophagus into the stomach without any painkillers.
The beagles are cruelly “tested” with pharmaceuticals (human or veterinary), food additives or industrial or agricultural chemicals. Depending on the type and dosage of the chemical, the dogs either die during the tests or are killed. After their death, the effects of the chemicals on their bodies are examined. Beagles are also abused for experiments in heart failure research or for jaw surgery, in which the animals' teeth are pulled out and holes are drilled in their jawbones.
In other laboratories, dogs are deliberately bred with paralyzing muscle diseases so that they can then be experimented on. The sick dogs can only walk, swallow and breathe with great effort.
Only about 2% of all lab beagles survive and this is only because there are organizations like the Lab Beagle Help Association that take care of placing the dogs in a home that they deserve after all their suffering.
There are no rescue operations here, they approach institutions and these institutions also make enquiries themselves in the event of a possible release.
