The Mission: To help Kym Stine heal and move forward after a tour bus rear-ended her car leaving her with a complex nervous-system trauma & brain injury - - through raising $50,000 to provide ongoing physical, mental and emotional support.
Kym and I have been friends for 25 years through a mutual interest in triathlons. She coached and encouraged me, and together we both reached our goal of competing in the National Age-Group Triathlon Championships in 1999. With her natural drive to excel and experience her optimal athletic potential, Kym went on to complete 2 Ironman Triathlons.
She has been multi-talented in many areas: as a health & physical educator, coach, graphic/fine artist, and integrative massage therapist working with complex cases.
And then - - Kym’s life was totally altered by a tour bus!! The effects of that crash and related brain injury are still with her almost 8 years later.
Kym lives alone and is unable to work due to the effects of the trauma. She has significant cognitive deficits and neurological impairment, so her recovery is agonizingly slow. Just dealing with the daily challenges of life continues to overwhelm and tax her limits.
She has attempted to navigate the complex legal system seeking just compensation for her injuries but has been thwarted at every turn. Two lawyers and a brain injury support organization have failed her, and the bus company has offered nothing, leaving her with depleted financial resources.
Kym lives in a 250-year-old house that needs repair, located on a busy, noisy main street near a fire station - - the absolute worst location for someone with visual and auditory issues. She wants to sell and move to a quiet location where her overstimulated nervous system and brain can continue to recover. Her busy street has cost her two-cars after they were hit by drunk drivers.
Even after 8 years, Kym still needs appropriate treatment and therapies so she can continue to recover. She has no family or friends who live close enough to help her with everyday needs. Her network of friends and I are reaching out to you, trusting that you will help an amazing person live a better life.
Your Donation will Help Kym with: financial support to continue treatment and therapy; hiring a skilled hands-on person to help her relearn basic life skills; repairing her house and getting it on the market; managing a small amount of debt; giving Kym peace of mind, and, most importantly, hope.
Kym has already begun to ‘pay-it-forward’ by speaking to medical training classes and TBI conferences/groups on practical suggestions for dealing with TBI patients. Also, she has developed the concept and artwork for a book The Scrambled Brain , using her talent to express the recovery process from her injuries through soul-saving images. She will, no doubt, continue to ‘pay-it-forward’ in the future. She deeply appreciates your gifts and prayers for her recovery.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts,
Becky and Kym’s friends
