Hope, and healing, support my internship at curve lake

My name is Tamara Mitchell, I’m a single mom of three, a full-time student, a peace builder in the making, and a woman of deep faith and perseverance. I’m currently completing my Master’s in Peace, Justice, public theology and Indigenous Reconciliation a journey rooted in healing, community, and the belief that another world is possible.

I recently received the incredible opportunity to do my internship on Curve Lake First Nation in Ontario this summer. I’ll be working alongside a pastor on the reserve, learning firsthand from community-led initiatives focused on healing, land, faith, and reconciliation. This is more than an academic requirement it’s the sacred ground where study meets story, and where my calling becomes real.

Getting here hasn’t been easy. Since January, I’ve been writing emails, and holding on through the year waiting for a reply back. As a solo parent navigating school, work, healing, and my learning challenges, finally landing this internship feels like a miracle. But to say yes, I need help getting there.

I’m hoping to raise $8,000 to cover:

• Travel and accommodations

• Food, gas, and car rental while in Ontario

• A small amount of spending money for essentials

• The final remaining balance on my school fees

I don’t have student loans anymore, I don’t yet have the financial cushion to carry this final leg alone. This is where community comes in.

I believe not just in theory but in my bones that we are not meant to walk alone. My studies have shown me how deeply our culture leans into individualism, and how radical and holy it is to ask for help and believe in togetherness. Whether or not you share my faith, I believe we share this truth: we are better together.
