The Farley Open Committee is proud to announce the 2026 charity beneficiary: the family of Wesley Miller.

Wesley Miller is a courageous 4-year-old boy who lives in Philadelphia with his parents, Erin and Nate, his 6-year-old sister Maggie, and his baby brother Sam. Originally from the Reading area, the Miller family recently relocated to Philadelphia so Wesley could remain close to his care team at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP).

In September 2025, at just 3 years old, Wesley was diagnosed with medulloblastoma, an aggressive brain tumor located around critical nerves and his brainstem. Just days later, on October 1, he underwent an eight-hour surgery at CHOP to remove the tumor.

Although the surgery was successful, Wesley faced an incredibly difficult recovery. He developed Posterior Fossa Syndrome, a rare complication that temporarily took away his ability to speak, walk, eat, and perform many basic functions. Over the months that followed, he endured intensive rehabilitation, multiple rounds of chemotherapy, serious infections, an abscess requiring additional treatment, seizures, and Veno-Occlusive Disease (VOD), a life-threatening complication that ultimately prevented him from completing his planned stem cell transplant treatment.

After extensive discussions with his medical team, Wesley's family made the difficult decision to delay radiation therapy until he is older, hoping to reduce the long-term effects on his developing brain. Today, Wesley continues outpatient chemotherapy through a personalized treatment plan while also receiving ongoing physical, occupational, and speech therapy. His treatment is expected to continue for several more years.

Since his diagnosis, Wesley has spent nearly 250 days as an inpatient at CHOP. The lengthy hospitalizations placed an enormous emotional and financial burden on the Miller family. Both Erin and Nate took extended leave from their careers in education to care for Wesley, receiving their final paychecks in December 2025. Erin ultimately resigned from her position as a school counselor to become Wesley's full-time caregiver, while Nate recently returned to work after months spent balancing hospital life with caring for his family.

The challenges extended well beyond the hospital walls. Maggie often spent weeks living with family members while her parents remained at CHOP, and baby Sam spent much of his first year of life between hospital rooms, hotels, and the Ronald McDonald House. The family's move to Philadelphia has finally allowed them to be together under one roof while remaining just minutes from Wesley's medical team.

Despite everything he has endured, Wesley continues to amaze everyone around him. He is talking again, eating, regaining his strength, and taking important steps forward every day. His determination, infectious smile, and resilient spirit have inspired not only his family but everyone who has had the privilege of meeting him.

Throughout this journey, the Miller family has chosen hope. They celebrate every milestone, no matter how small, and continue to "keep building" toward the future they know Wesley deserves.
