Last week, some of my dearest friends, Amanda and Aaron Schecter, received news that no parent should ever have to hear. Their four year old daughter, Ryleigh, was diagnosed with an aggressive, inoperable brain tumor called DIPG (Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma). This is a rapidly growing tumor located in the brainstem, and without treatment, the median survival time is just 9-12 months from diagnosis.
Ryleigh is truly one in a million. She has a larger-than-life personality that fills every room she enters, the sweetest smile with the most adorable dimples, and a spirit that radiates pure joy. Those who know her often describe her as “human sunshine”. This little girl LOVES to dance, sing and just put on a show for anyone who will watch. She brings her light wherever she goes.
Ryleigh and her older brother, Hudson, are Aaron and Amanda’s entire world. They are the most devoted, loving parents, completely dedicated to giving their children a life full of joy, security, and endless love. Their family bond is something truly special, and it’s impossible to imagine a world without Ryleigh’s light in it. With your help, we are holding onto hope that we won’t have to.
While this news has been devastating, Amanda and her family have shown incredible strength and courage. They have already connected with some remarkable doctors, and there is real hope in the form of clinical trials being offered across the country. These trials represent the way to give Ryleigh girl her best shot.
But time is critical.
To pursue these life-saving opportunities, Amanda will need to step away from work and be fully present for her daughter. It is likely they will need to relocate across the country on short notice to access the most promising treatment options. In a moment where every second matters, financial stress should not stand in the way of giving Ryleigh her best chance.
This is where we can come together.
The Schecters need to be surrounded by love, strength, and support right now. Let’s help lift the burden so they can focus entirely on Ryleigh, on fighting, on hoping, and on cherishing every moment together. Every contribution, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference in helping them act quickly and pursue the care their daughter urgently needs.
Thank you for keeping the Schecter family in your thoughts, your hearts, and your prayers during this incredibly difficult time.
