Our Martina is currently hospitalized and fighting a very serious illness. This has been one of the hardest seasons our family has ever faced, and we are sharing this fundraiser with humility and gratitude for anyone willing to walk alongside us.
We have been inpatient at the hospital almost every day of December this year. From pain management to her lungs, Martina is not doing well right now. She has developed a pleural effusion on her left side and is receiving intensive treatment, including strong IV antibiotics. Her medical team is closely monitoring her condition, and while we are praying surgical intervention won’t be necessary, it is something that has been discussed.
There have been small signs of progress—her heart rate has come down, her fevers are better controlled with around-the-clock medication, and she is more hydrated—but she is still very sick and not out of the woods. Because of her condition, Martina will not be able to come home for Christmas and will remain hospitalized for the foreseeable future.
As her grownups, we are focused entirely on being by her side, advocating for her care, and helping her get through each difficult day. This has meant time away from work, additional travel, parking, and lodging costs, meals, and mounting medical expenses that we simply were not prepared for. Especially around Christmas time!
We’ve been doing our best but the reality is that this journey is heavy, uncertain, and ongoing.
Our goal is to try and make the most of this time. If you are able to donate, every contribution will go directly toward medical bills and the unexpected expenses that come with long-term hospitalization. If you’re unable to give financially, we would be incredibly grateful for your prayers, positive thoughts, and for sharing this page.
Thank you for caring for Martina and for supporting our family during this incredibly difficult time. We are taking things one moment at a time and holding tightly to hope.
