Hope and Healing for Marcelino’s Transplant Journey

Their Story

In early November, Marcelino was diagnosed with XLP2, an incredibly rare genetic immune disorder. Receiving this diagnosis brought long-awaited answers — and also the realization of how serious the road ahead would be.

Marcelino is one of four children and has three sisters who love him deeply. Through genetic testing, it was discovered that all three sisters are carriers of XLP2, which means none of them are able to serve as bone marrow donors. Because of this, Marcelino will receive his transplant from an unrelated donor.

The Road Ahead
A bone marrow transplant is considered a curative treatment for XLP2. Without a bone marrow transplant, XLP2 can become life-threatening. The transplant offers Marcelino the opportunity for a healthy future. The transplant is expected to take place in May at the family’s local children’s hospital.

The transplant process is long and demanding, involving extensive preparation, prolonged hospital stays, and a lengthy recovery period. Throughout this time, Mom will remain by his side in the hospital, while Deds (Bonus Dad) focuses on supporting their daughters and keeping daily life as steady as possible at home.

How Support Helps
Even with insurance and receiving care locally, the financial impact of a bone marrow transplant is overwhelming. This fundraiser exists to help the family manage the many unavoidable costs and life disruptions that come with this journey, including:

  • Time away from work and lost income
  • Travel to and from frequent medical appointments
  • Meals and daily living expenses during extended hospital stays
  • Unexpected costs throughout treatment and recovery

A Note About Donations

All donations made through this GoFundMe are voluntary personal gifts given to support the family during this medical journey. No goods or services are provided in exchange for donations, and contributions are not payments for medical care or services.

Funds raised will be used to help offset household and care-related expenses while the family navigates transplant and recovery.

Holding Onto Hope
XLP2 is incredibly rare, and this has been an overwhelming season for the family. At the same time, there is real hope. A curative treatment exists, and the donor search is well underway, with several promising matches giving the family real hope.

Above all else, the family is asking for prayer. Prayers for Marcelino, for a suitable donor to be confirmed, for strength and peace throughout the transplant process, and for healing in the months ahead are deeply cherished and felt every day.

Every donation, share, and message of support helps surround this family with care and allows them to focus on what matters most — helping their son heal and move toward a healthier future.
