The Trettin family has been on a journey no family ever expects to face. Their son, Jace, was diagnosed at a very young age with combined immunodeficiency/common variable immunodeficiency—a complex and progressive condition that has required ongoing care from multiple specialists and many years of treatment. Despite his strength and resilience, Jace’s condition has brought increasing health challenges, including more frequent and prolonged illnesses, and now involvement of his organs.
After careful consideration, his medical team has recommended a bone marrow transplant—giving Jace the best chance to “reset” his immune system and stop the progression of his disease. Without this life-saving procedure, his life expectancy would be significantly shortened. His BMT is scheduled for this summer. This will include a month of pre-BMT work-up, weeks of pre-BMT chemotherapy, and the transplant process, which will be at least 100 days of in/outpatient care. Their family will need to stay in Minneapolis for 6+ months.
In the midst of this difficult reality, there has been a powerful moment of hope. Jace’s brother, Jaxon, stepped forward to be tested as a potential donor—and incredibly, he is a 100% match. Jaxon is truly a hero. He will undergo his own surgical procedure to donate bone marrow, showing courage and love for his brother.
As the family prepares for this long and challenging road ahead in Minneapolis, MN, they will face significant financial strain. Contributions will help ease this burden by supporting:
• Unpaid/immediate high deductible medication & medical expenses for both children
• Travel, meals, and housing costs as Brian makes multiple trips back and forth
• Loss of Brooke’s wages to be with Jace as he undergoes treatment and recovery
• Essential needs, including unexpected and unforeseen expenses that arise throughout treatment
Any support—whether through donations, prayers, or sharing their story—means more than words can express. The Trettin family is deeply grateful for the love and encouragement surrounding them as they fight for Jace’s health and future.
