My name is Courtney Hinz and I'm Jackson Buettmann's aunt. Please read more about his current situation in the words of his dad, Jeremy:
"On Friday (9/12), Megan got a call that Jackson was projectile vomiting and needed to be picked up. By the time they got home, I was off work and we quickly realized Jackson just wasn’t acting like himself. We took him to urgent care where they thought it might be a stomach bug, advising Pedialyte and a slow reintroduction of formula, with instructions to follow up with his primary care doctor if he wasn’t better by Monday.
Over the weekend, Jackson still wasn’t himself—so much so that we let him sleep in bed with us. Early Monday morning (9/15), around 3:30am, I woke up to what I thought was Megan nudging me. Instead, I realized Jackson’s arm was twitching—he was having a seizure. We rushed him to the ER, where the seizures continued, and the med flight team was called to transfer him to American Family Children’s Hospital in Madison.
Once there, doctors discovered that Jackson had sustained a traumatic brain injury sometime in the last week. He underwent surgery to drain fluid and relieve pressure on his brain, which thankfully helped stop the seizures. However, there has already been some damage, and the full extent won’t be known for some time.
Since Monday, Jackson has had multiple MRIs, X-rays, and other tests. Today, we are thankful to share that he is out of the PICU, awake, and has been moved to a general room—positive steps forward. Still, the road ahead will be long. Doctors have told us he’ll be here for several weeks and will need ongoing testing and care to understand the full scope of his injury.
Our world has been turned upside down, but we are clinging to hope and trying to stay strong for Jackson—he needs us more than ever right now."
Medical bills are going to start rolling in, especially given Jackson's extended hospital stay. Your donations will go towards medical bills and helping Jeremy and Megan as they are both having to miss work.
We love Jackson so much and know he has a village of supporters behind him. We can't thank you enough for your support.
