Abby is a treasure—the beloved “baby” of the four Fillmore girls. She’s 16 years old, a high school sophomore, and full of creativity and heart. Abby loves softball, playing the piano, drawing, reading, writing poetry, listening to music, and snuggling with her fluffy cat Fitz and her dog Sammie.

On Tuesday, December 17, 2025, Abby was diagnosed with bilateral pneumonia. As complications developed, she was admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. On December 18, further testing revealed a large abscess in her left lung. Despite Abby’s incredible strength and determination—and the tireless efforts of her medical team—her breathing and oxygen levels continued to decline.

She was placed on a ventilator to help her breathe, but it quickly became clear that she needed even higher-level care. On December 18 at 5:00 p.m., Abby was placed on ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) to sustain her life. This machine oxygenates her blood outside of her body, allowing her lungs the time they need to rest and heal. Abby is currently on VV (veno-venous) ECMO for lung support only, and thankfully, her heart is working like a champion on its own.

On Sunday, December 21, doctors shifted from the initial pneumonia diagnosis after new test results and a series of developments. Abby tested overwhelmingly positive for PR3, a specific indicator of Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis (GPA)—a rare autoimmune disease that often affects the lungs, kidneys, ears, and sinuses. While this diagnosis is daunting, it has allowed her doctors to move forward with a targeted treatment plan.

Abby’s family and friends continue to pray for God’s healing hand over her and for strength in the days ahead.
