Help fund Lucy’s medical care
We are Vince and Jenny, reaching out on behalf of our oldest daughter, Lucy.
Lucy is a 21-year-old junior at Marquette University, studying math and data science. This year, she fulfilled a dream of studying abroad at John Cabot University in Rome. Kind and gentle by nature, she embraced this experience with curiosity, joy, and a love of gelato.
On the weekend of January 30, while traveling with friends in Budapest, Lucy suddenly became ill and was hospitalized. Doctors discovered her liver was severely inflamed, and they advised her to return to Rome immediately. Once back, Lucy was admitted to a local hospital, where she was diagnosed with liver failure, likely caused by a rare genetic disorder called Wilson’s disease. This condition leads to dangerous copper buildup in the liver and throughout the body. As of this writing, Lucy has undergone a liver transplant early Sunday, February 8, Rome time. She is in the ICU.
True to the spirit of her name, Lucy brings light to everyone around her—even during the most difficult time of her young life. Throughout this ordeal, her strength, grace, and unwavering spirit have given hope to all who love her.
The transplant process is extraordinarily expensive, particularly given its urgency and the fact that it is taking place overseas. We are both on leave from work to support her through this critical time. Funds raised will go directly toward Lucy’s medical care, our travel and lodging expenses, and the many medical costs associated with her recovery. Lucy will need medical care for the for the rest of her life.
We are deeply grateful for any support you can give. Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a meaningful difference and helps carry Lucy toward healing.
