Hi everyone,
I never thought I would be in a position to write something like this, but our family needs help during one of the hardest times we’ve ever faced.
My grandmother, Ginger, is currently in the neurological ICU at UC Davis after suffering a subarachnoid hemorrhage caused by a brain aneurysm. This has all happened very suddenly, and our lives have been turned upside down.
She underwent an interventional radiology procedure where doctors coiled the aneurysm, and although the procedure itself went well, complications followed. She had to be intubated, and when sedation was lifted, she was unable to wake up as doctors had hoped.
A repeat CT scan later revealed she developed hydrocephalus (fluid on the brain). Doctors had to drill a small hole in her skull to try to relieve the pressure and drain the fluid. When that did not work as expected, they made the decision on 3/30 to place a lumbar drain in her back to help remove the excess fluid. She’s currently in a medical induced coma but hope to wean her off of that.
At this point, doctors expect her to remain in the ICU for at the very least- 21 days, and her condition is still very serious. We are taking things moment by moment.
Our family is trying to stay as close to her as possible during this critical time. Being near her means everything to us right now, but we live about an hour away, and the cost of gas, food, and temporary housing is quickly adding up.
We are currently working with a hospital social worker to hopefully secure a room at Kiwanis Family House, a nonprofit “home-away-from-home” in Sacramento that provides low-cost housing for families of critically ill patients at UC Davis Medical Center.
Even with that support, we are facing unexpected expenses, and that’s why we are asking for help.
If you are able to donate, no amount is too small—it will go directly toward:
• Temporary housing
• Gas and transportation
• Meals while we remain close to the hospital
• Basic needs during this extended stay
If you’re unable to donate, sharing this page means just as much to us.
We are incredibly grateful for the doctors and nurses who have been working around the clock to care for her. We are holding onto hope and doing everything we can to be by her side through this.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support, prayers, and kindness during this time. We will try and keep everyone updated
