Hello,

My name is Luke, I served just over 19 years within the Household Cavalry Regiment, joining in 2004 and was medically discharged in 2023. I did both ceremonial duties and armoured completing two tours of Afghanistan, Herrick 7 and 11. I suffer with anxiety, depression and PTSD.

Upon leaving I moved to Durham where I still am living. On the 11th September I had a pain in my calf and thought I'd pulled a muscle, over the next few days the pain didn't go and I ended up going to A&E where I was then transfered to Sunderland in an ambulance.

I was told it was a blood clot in my calf, the foot had died and had the left leg amputated below the knee on Wednesday 17th September. This has come totally out of the blue and as you can imagine has come as a huge shock, I am still taking everything in.

There will be huge changes to my life now and it will take some time adjusting.

There will be lots of things needed to help to try to live as much as a normal life as possible, lots of this I am led to believe there are agencies that can help with things such as turning the bathroom into a wet room, ramps into the house etc etc.

What I am looking for help with are the practical things that will help within the house and to help make every day tasks a little easier, such as furniture, travel expenses to all of the appointments, a decent prosthetic limb and things like that.

Any help from the Miitary community, the veteran community and the civilian community will be greatly appreciated.
