Want to join me in making a difference in the lives of Maui’s keiki (“kids”)?
I'm raising money through the Hawaiian Outrigger Canoe Voyaging Society (HOCVS) and any donation - big or small - will help make an impact.
HOCVS is offering a weekday youth program throughout the month of September, and potentially longer (depending on the need regarding COVID-19 and the school system). The program, Ho’oulu Ka ‘Ike (“growing with knowledge”) teaches culture, education and health. It also provides the time and space for students to check in with their teachers and get some homework completed during this Distant Learning Season.
Details on the program can be found at: https://static1.squarespace.com/static/5bac0c668dfc8c3f2f0f8b9f/t/5f3744d057da8940e99ebc77/1597457617951/Ho%27ouluKa%27Ike.pdf
$10,000 will cover the tuition for 24 students to attend Ho’oulu Ka ‘Ike. We know there are many families that need assistance during this time of the pandemic. Many of them are trying to figure out how to simultaneously homeschool their children and go to work. HOCVS is making the commitment to be here for our community, and especially to those in need. We don’t want any family to struggle or worry about the well-being of their children.
It is time – during this pandemic –to come together as a community and help one another.
The fee for each Ho’oulu Ka ‘Ike haumana (“student”) is $400 per month – only $100 a week. The fee takes care of all the materials, instructors and cultural practitioners that will be working to make this a full cultural experience for the keiki. They will be learning life-skills and a healthy sustainable lifestyle, while being immersed in Hawaiian culture.
Mahalo in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to our keiki.
