The Hoosier Philharmonic was formed in 2016 in Bloomington, Indiana with the goal of connecting university students, community members and local charities throughout Indiana.
Our inaugural concert (April 28, 2016) will benefit The Villages of Indiana, an incredible organization who's passion is to provide all children with a "safe, permanent and nurturing home". In addition to providing counseling, information and support to families, The Villages facilitates the fostering and adoption of hundreds of children each year.
A performance of Mahler's 2nd Symphony is an incredibly large undertaking. Over 200 musicians have been gathered--both singers and orchestral players--in order to perform the piece, all of whom are donating their time and talents to rehearsals and the performance. Members of the Hoosier Phil are made up of students from the Jacobs School of Music as well as other IU students and players from the Bloomington Symphony Orchestra . Thanks to the support of the Indiana University Union Board , this concert will be performed in the beautiful Alumni Hall at the Indiana Memorial Union (as well as allowing us to make use of the hall's incredible pipe organ!).
The funds raised from this campaign will be used to cover any extra costs that may come up in the planning of an event of this magnitude (including providing food for university music students!!), with the rest being donated directly to The Villages.
We believe lives can be changed through the power of music! Your donations will greatly help us in our goal of helping others. Thank you!
