Roosevelt students love to show their school spirit by wearing RHS hoodies. But with 72% of our students on free and reduced lunch, there are many who cannot afford one. In past years our school community had the privilege of hoodies for all, donated by a church that adopted our school for a few years. In those years, family income level did not divide students -- all kids received one. We can remember some students wearing their hoodie almost every day. For some, it’s just a favorite item. For others, it’s a needed warm layer. For others, it connects them to their peers in the school community -- at a game, in the community or in the halls.
A group of teachers and staff are committed to raising funds so that once again, in this year where students feel so disconnected from school, the building, and their peers, they can have this warm, solid symbol of a connection to Roosevelt. We feel for our 9th graders who are not building a sense of belonging in the way they should be. We feel for our seniors, who may go the whole year without so many of the classic milestones to cap off their K-12 experience.
We want all our students to receive a Roosevelt hoodie. We are exploring ways to fund raise approximately $20,000-$23,000 so all students can receive one, and our students can wear and present this one image of unity and inclusion. We now have about 1300 students enrolled in Roosevelt. Leadership class is already working on a new logo with a local vendor.
To fund sweatshirts for all current Freshmen: $15 x 357 students = $5,355
To fund sweatshirts for all current Sophomores: $15 x 392 students = $5,880
To fund sweatshirts for all current Juniors: $15 x 291 students = $4,365
To fund sweatshirts for all current Seniors: $15 x 266 students = $3,990
Sweatshirts cost $15 per student. If you are a Roosevelt parent or guardian, and can afford the cost for your student(s), please donate the amount here. If you can afford that amount and more, consider donating enough to give sweatshirts to other students in our community as well. Any and all support is much appreciated by the students, families, and Roosevelt High School Community.
The Leadership Students have launched the Online Student Store, so if you are a parent or guardian interested in Rider Gear for yourself, you can purchase swag there!
