We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved grandmother, Eugenia McKie — affectionately known to many as Mummy Gina or Tanty Gina. She was a cherished Mother, Sister, Aunt, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother whose love and strength touched generations of our family.
Eugenia passed away peacefully on May 18, on a cool Caribbean night, surrounded by love and the spirit of the land that shaped her.
Born on October 19, 1926, in a coconut field in Saint Vincent — a detail she proudly shared when asked about her beginnings — Mummy Gina lived through nearly a century of history. She witnessed and endured world wars, three volcanic eruptions, and the independence of her homeland, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Her life was a testament to resilience and strength.
She also ventured far beyond her island roots, travelling to England, Canada, and The USA, and settling in Vancouver, where she lived for 38 years.
In Vancouver, she lovingly cared for her grandchildren — Natalie King, Allan King, Janette King — and her grandniece, Christine King. Her nurturing spirit, vibrant storytelling, and quiet strength were a constant source of comfort and guidance for all of us.
Mummy Gina lived a life of unwavering devotion to her family. Now, as we prepare to lay her to rest, we want to honour her with the same care, dignity, and love she gave so freely.
We are raising funds to help cover the funeral and memorial expenses for Eugenia McKie. Any contribution — no matter the size — will make a difference and help us give her the beautiful send-off she deserves. Your generosity will help cover funeral costs, burial/cremation, and a memorial service where family and friends can gather to celebrate her incredible life.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your support, love, and kindness during this difficult time.
With love,
The McKie, Henry & King Family
