V.E.P Sailing Events was created because we believe that service should never be forgotten once a uniform comes off.
After spending years around sailing, classic yachts, and crewed environments, I saw first-hand how powerful being at sea can be. Sailing demands focus, teamwork, and trust, and it gives people something rare: space to breathe, think clearly, and feel useful again.
At the same time, I became increasingly aware of how many former service personnel struggle after leaving the forces. Many are unemployed, isolated, or simply lacking direction, not because they failed, but because the transition to civilian life can be hard!
Regardless of anyone’s views on politics or world events, one thing is certain: those who served our country deserve support, respect, and real opportunities, not just words.
That belief is what led to this project.
Why Sailing?
Sailing is therapy, but, this project doesn’t pretend to replace professional support.
What it offers instead is respite, adventure, and opportunity for ex-forces to make sense of their lives and overcome challenges they face daily!
Life aboard a yacht requires learning, cooperation, problem-solving, and shared responsibility. For many ex-force's this feels familiar in the best possible way, structured, meaningful, and team-based, without pressure or judgement.
Time at sea helps quiet the noise that can lead to anxiety, depression, and isolation. It allows people to reconnect with themselves and others in a natural, supportive environment.
Why Rona?
Rona is a 78ft classic sailing yacht built in 1895. Over her 130-year life, she has served as:
A naval training vessel
A platform for supporting disadvantaged youth
A successful international racing yacht
She has always been about teaching, teamwork, and opportunity, which makes her the perfect vessel for this mission.
Rona will return to UK waters in late 2026, with plans to appear at events such as Cowes Week Regatta 2026.
How This Campaign Works
During the high season, Rona will operate as a charter yacht at regattas, races, and events. This commercial activity helps fund the project.
During the low season, she is dedicated entirely to supporting ex-forces at no cost to them!
Every journey will be filmed and shared openly, so supporters can see exactly how their contribution is making a difference.
Why I’m Asking for Your Support
This campaign isn’t just about raising money; it’s about building belief.
Public support attracts sponsorship, media interest, and long-term sustainability. Whether you donate £1 or become a key backer, you help prove that this project deserves to exist.
Together, we can, honour service, restore purpose, and continue Rona’s legacy of changing lives!
