Jessica Black was loved by so many and is now lost to us all. She had that sparkle in her eyes, and the most unique and wonderful smile. While she may be gone in body, her spirit lives on in the memories of her family and friends. Jessica's parents also make the selfless decision to donate her organs - in addition to her lungs, kidneys and liver, Jess's heart now beats in a new chest - hopefully there is some solace knowing she saved 5 others.
Jessica had struggled with anorexia and her mental health for a while. On the outside, she did everything she could to appear normal, until she couldn't anymore.
In her own words “…a year ago I wouldn’t talk about my mental health at all, and I would always hide everything from everyone. But as of right now I’m starting to feel more comfortable opening up about these things. So here it goes... I grew up with hiding every single one of my problems and everyone always thought I was okay. My family has problems, and because of those problems…I have big trust issues. I have been trying my very best to stay strong with things and keep myself together. Even though I am on medications it still is hard for me to stay strong sometimes since they don’t always help with my mood disorders. I’m just hoping that people will understand and be respectful. My biggest concern is people thinking all this is a lie, but for the people that do please don’t be disrespectful and keep whatever you think to yourself. Thank you."
It wasn't a lie. Last week Jessica's mental health issues led her to take her own life.
The outpouring of love and condolences from the community has been so heartwarming and appreciated, but words cannot fully express the sympathy and deep sadness we feel, and words cannot help the family with the unexpected financial burden associated with an event like this. The family has been a one income household for a while, so anything we can do to ease any financial burden is greatly appreciated. We want to allow the family to be together and have some level of normalcy without worrying about money, so all funds raised will go to help the family with funeral costs and other expenses*. These are costs no parent should bear in their lifetime.
Losing a child is especially devastating. It’s not something many people can understand. I don't know how we can even begin to try. Thank you for your support of Jess’s family during this difficult time.

There will be an opportunity for guests to leave a token of their memory with Jessica at the end of the service. Items such as a flower, or card/note would be lovingly appreciated.
There will also be a memory box where people can write a note to Jessica or their favorite memory of her and place it into the box. The box will either go with Jess or the family may keep it.

*As per GFM, specifically the funds will go to:
- The funeral home (covers Jessica's casket, transportation to/from the church, her cremation, etc.)
- The church where the service is being held, including the reception space, catering, etc.
- Whatever else the Black family needs to use the funds for - this is at their discretion.
