We're coming together as friends, family and community to hold Luther, Tristan and Malia close after the heartbreaking loss of Denise and Kayden.
Denise and their youngest son, 11-year old Kayden, tragically lost their lives in a car accident October 1st. They leave behind Denise's "Mr Man", Luther, their eldest son and daughter, and a family / community who loved them deeply. “My babies are my everything,” Denise wrote. Her love for her children, Luther, her mom, family, in-laws… were at the heart of her life.
She and Luther had been friends since 1997. He was her “Mr. or Mr. Man.” She posted, “You have always been my constant. For better or for worse you have weathered the storms with me.” She honoured his devotion and the example he set for their children, “I am grateful that our kids have you as their role model. We need more honourable men in this world.”
Kayden was her “lil jokester,” a boy with a big heart who was “the 1st to go without if he wants to share with u.” He had “the strength of a mountain” when standing up to his big brother or sister. And, his questions began, “mom do you know what I'm wondering?” and led to deep conversations with her. Those who knew him remember a sweetheart who always made sure to say ‘good morning.’
Tristan and Malia have lost both their Mom and little brother. Denise was so proud of them, describing them as “the most kind and generous babies.” She held all of them close. As Tristan and Malia grieve alongside their Dad, we want them to feel surrounded by our love/care.
Denise was a bright, beautiful light, with an infectious laugh and smile. She inspired us to lighten up and be the best version of ourselves. She was a spiritual warrior, a knowledge holder and a language warrior too. Her loss is felt throughout their community and Secwepemcúl̓ecw. Her classmates chose her as valedictorian because, in their words, “we knew you were the bravest of us all.”
She checked in, showed up and cared deeply. She loved beading, leaving behind so many gems for all of us to treasure. Denise was a giver not a taker. And we know, she's “sending out carebear stares to those who need it ”
Funds will go directly to Luther, giving him/them breathing room, and hopefully more time together to meet the needs of the months ahead.
Thank you so much for donating, sharing and holding this family in your prayers.
