Safety is a human right — yet too often, women are denied it.

I met Linda Gates in 2018 when she completed a student placement at Niagara Regional Native Centre. She often spoke about her daughters, and it was clear how deeply loved and protected they were. Linda is a devoted mother whose strength and care have continued even in unimaginable loss.

In early September 2023, Linda’s daughter, Tiffany Vanda Gates, was killed by her boyfriend. Since that time, Linda has continued to advocate for justice, accountability, and transparency. Through her persistent lobbying, the name of Tiffany’s murderer was publicly released — an important step in confronting violence against women. Linda continues to raise awareness to help prevent other families from experiencing a tragedy like Tiffany’s.

This fundraiser will support the installation of two memorial park benches in Tiffany’s honour. These benches will serve as public reminders that femicide and violence against women are real, ongoing issues — and that silence enables harm.
