Last night my sister went to bed a wife, a mother, a daughter, a sister, a family member and a friend.
The wife of an amazing hardworking yet soft spoken gentle giant of a man, Mr. Matthew King. A man who would do anything for his family, friends and loved ones. A man who brought joy and kindness into any room he entered. A man whose daughter looks exactly like him with maybe a "dash" of my sister's smile and a sense of humor all her own.
Little Charli King has the effervescent light and energy of a spirited hummingbird. Although she was born a premie at just 27 weeks she knew who she was and what she was made of - a fighter. Fighters come in all shapes and sizes and my sister and her husband together made just that - the tiniest fighter weighing into the ring at just over 2lbs her boxing silks may have been saggy - but she was up for the fight.
For those of you who don't know my sister - she's the giant gold belt wearin', booty kickin', ultra fighter of my family. Born with type 1 diabetes and hosting a myriad of other health related issues over the years has never stopped her from pursuing any of her dreams. Up to and including her ultimate dream of finding just the right man to take as her husband. Mr. Matthew King fit the bill, perfectly. As a perfect balance to my sister's outgoing, somewhat stubborn and lightning quick wit. Matthew was the perfect match for my beautiful sister. I was there the day he made my sister a wife. I took a few photographs in the small church my father's family had grown up going to for generations. Their love was true and honest and rooted so deep they could weather any storm. Since their marriage, I've watched my little sister grow into an amazing woman, wife and mother. I will never stop being proud of my little sister. Ever.
In the early hours of this morning she was made a widow. A word almost impossible to pronounce in this moment. The love of her life is gone - taken far too soon - at only 33 years old, Matthew King passed away peacefully in the arms of his loving wife - my brave sister, Arie Kathryn King.
My sister is a fighter and no doubt will navigate through her own grief on her own terms. Financially speaking, any donation will be graciously accepted in hopes of covering final and day to day expenses as Arie pursues her ongoing education in nursing at High Point University. The money raised will also be used to enroll our superstar, 3 year old Charli King in special programs for their educational and emotional support.
From our family to yours, with love,
