Yorean Yos-Maher, age 18, Cambodian and American citizen, and daughter of Brian Maher and Bophal Yos, was born in Svay Rieng, Cambodia in 2007. She was saved from imminent death by Bophal when she was just 7 days old and was adopted and lovingly raised by her.

Yorean had a happy childhood, loved playing in the rain, caring for puppies, and expressing herself through art and poetry. She was both fearless and street-smart, rough and tumble, yet also deeply insightful, sensitive, helpful, and sweet.

She attended ACT (Academy, Career and Tech) in Phnom Penh before beginning training at Kati Korpi Salon, a wonderful program for future hairstylists. Yorean loved her work and found encouragement and support in many ways.

Yorean was a fighter and an overcomer, but the lasting effects of her birth circumstances eventually weighed heavily on her. On Sunday night, September 7th, she tragically took her own life. She was deeply loved by many and will be sorely missed.

In addition to this devastating loss, the family is facing unexpected and overwhelming expenses to bring Yorean to rest with dignity. The process of arranging her service in Cambodia has been complicated by government requirements, embassy involvement, and high costs for transport, embalming, etc
