Virginia "Ginny" Oliver, fondly known as "the Lobster Lady," has passed away at 105 years of age. Her story and spirit have captivated people young and old around the world.
Ginny continued to live on the same street in Rockland, Maine where she was born, and had been lobstering for over 97 years.
Getting to know Ginny and her son Maxwell first as an author and then as a friend was one of the greatest gifts of my lifetime. I'd love to offer something back to the Oliver family. I can already hear Ginny's voice in my head, "Now, what'd ya go and do that for?" upon posting this. The truth is, because my own mother died years ago, I know how many unexpected costs are involved after someone dies. So I would take Ginny's scolding in order to lighten the burden ever so slightly, and offer a direction to the outpouring of love. Because so many people loved--continue to love-- Ginny. I'm grateful to the Oliver family for providing us with an outlet for that love in this moment.
All funds go directly to the Oliver family to help with funeral and related expenses.
Here's to Ginny, whose contagious laugh and granite-solid, salty spirit will stay with us always!
