My mother, Victoria Bloom, is an extraordinary human being. She has touched, influenced, graced, and altered for the better the lives of so many. From local teens who she supported as a peer resource counselor to inmates at San Quentin prison where she worked as a psychologist, my mom has dedicated her life to helping others.
My mom has been fighting cancer since 2020 and for a long time kept it at bay with immunotherapy and chemo, all while working at the prison and seeing private patients. She fought through fatigue but was her normal creative, vivacious, and hilarious self.
In December of last year, her latest PET scan showed what we had feared, a spread and metastasizing of the cancer. I found out January 14th that her prognosis was about 6 months, maybe more with aggressive treatment... the next day I got the call that my father, Patrick Brennan, had passed away.
His funeral was January 30th, and after the emotional and financial rollercoaster, we as a family were looking forward to some calm. Unfortunately, days after, my mom was hospitalized after repeated pain crises. After a minor heart attack, several small strokes and new scans, we learned her cancer was spreading faster than anyone could have imagined.
In less than 3 weeks we have gone from 6 months to weeks to days. We brought her home to pass peacefully among family and friends and are keeping her as comfortable as possible with the aid of hospice.
We are humbly asking for support to help cover the cost of some extra in-home support for her final time here with us and giving her the same green, local burial we were able to give our father at Fernwood Cemetery. We had not anticipated financially covering burying both our parents in such close succession.
If my mom has touched your life and altered it for the better, we would be so grateful if you would help us during this difficult time.
