In the wake of unimaginable loss, we are coming together to support the family of Master Sgt. Tyler “Pepe” Simmons and to honor the life and legacy of someone who meant so much to all of us. Tyler tragically lost his life while serving as a member of the 121st Air Refueling Wing and 166th Air Refueling Squadron. He was doing what he loved most — serving alongside his team and being part of something bigger than himself.
Master Sgt. Tyler Simmons lived a life defined by service, connection, and a genuine love for people. Those who knew Ty remember his infectious positivity, the way he never seemed to have a bad day, and how he was always ready to step forward — especially when something difficult needed to be done. He had a way of bringing people together and making them feel valued, seen, and part of something bigger. Tyler began his career in the 121st Security Forces Squadron, where his natural leadership and presence made an immediate and lasting impact. He quickly earned the respect of those around him, becoming one of the youngest flight sergeants in the unit. Even as he made the decision to follow his passion for aviation, it was clear how much he meant to that team — and how much they meant to him. As a boom operator, “Pepe” — or just Ty to those who knew him best — was someone people loved flying with. He was steady, professional, and brought a kind of energy that made every mission better. He had big dreams of becoming an officer and a pilot, and anyone who knew him knows he would have achieved both.
Outside of the uniform, Ty was just as unforgettable. He loved roller-skating, was a devoted Bengals and TCU fan, and was known for his love of Spiderman and Flamin’ Hot Cheetos. More than anything, he was a loving son to his mom, Cheryl, and his father, Charles, and a deeply cherished friend to so many. Now it is our turn to surround them.
This fundraiser is one way we can continue the love and support that has already been so deeply felt over the past few days. The outpouring from family, friends, and this entire community has been more than we could have ever imagined. Nothing prepares you for the hardest day of your life, but seeing and feeling the impact Tyler made in so many lives — across this community and beyond — has eased even a small fraction of the ache in our hearts. Because so many have been moved by Tyler, we are creating this GoFundMe in his name. It gives us the opportunity to find meaningful ways to give back to the community he sacrificed so much to serve. As we explore how these funds can honor his legacy in the future, we are reminded that through this generosity, Tyler’s impact will continue — serving others, bringing people together, and leaving a lasting mark for years to come.
Tyler lived a life of service — to his country, to his fellow airmen, and to the people he loved. One of the most meaningful ways we can honor that life is by showing that same care and support to his family now. If you feel moved to give, please know that no amount is too small. Each contribution is simply another reminder that they are surrounded by people who care deeply about them and about the man Ty was. Most of all, we hope this effort reflects the very thing Ty lived every day — that when one of us is carrying something heavy, the rest of us step in to help carry it together.
