Tona Hamashige was more than just an art teacher—she was a mentor, a friend, and an incredible artist who touched the lives of so many in our community. Her passion for art and her dedication to her students inspired countless people, myself included, to see the world in new and creative ways. Tona’s kindness, wisdom, and encouragement left a lasting mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
On December 9th, 2025, Tona passed away from cancer. Sadly, she was alone at the time of her passing. As her friends and former students, we want to come together to ensure she receives the dignity and respect she deserves with a proper burial. We are raising funds to pay the funeral parlor and the cemetery for her burial plot, so that Tona can be laid to rest with the honor she earned throughout her life.
Tona impacted so many of us, and we know that having a place to visit and remember her would mean a great deal to everyone whose life she touched. Any funds raised beyond what is needed for the burial will go toward a headstone, giving us all a place to honor her memory. Your support, no matter the amount, will help us give back to someone who gave so much to others. Thank you for helping us celebrate Tona’s life and legacy.
