Honoring Tom Sorenson – A Life Full of Love, Laughter, and the Simple Things

We are heartbroken to share that Tom Sorenson has passed away after a hard-fought battle with liver disease and complications from MRSA. As his family grieves this tremendous loss, we are reaching out for support to help ease the financial burden that comes with saying goodbye—travel costs, time off work, and the many unexpected expenses that arise in times like these.

Tom was so many things—a loving father of two, a devoted stepfather, and a husband who built a life full of humor, grit, and warmth. He was also, quite simply, the greatest plumber to ever hold a wrench. But beyond his work, it was the little things that defined him.

He had a collector’s heart, drawn to exotic cacti, odd rocks, old glass bottles with stories buried in their cracks, and the constellations above. He had a way of seeing beauty in the overlooked—the heavy skies before a storm, the sun dipping behind the desert, the stretch of Route 66 that always seemed more inviting than the highway.

Every Easter, he donned a bunny suit without hesitation. Every summer, he’d cool off in his clawfoot tub on the porch, cheap beer in hand, BBQ smoking in the air. He had an unmatched, comical cynicism, a sharp wit grounded in life’s tough realities, yet he never lost sight of its simple joys.

He thought he was a fantastic pool player. He could stand on his hands. He kinda played the guitar. In his younger years he had a Harley, he played darts, and joined a bowling team with his wife Deborah. Tom ate chicken fried steak, biscuits and gravy, raw turnips, huevos rancheros, and insisted that sugar would be the thing that kills you over anything else. He raised chickens and geese... and a pig. He played with his kids, provided for them, and always emphasized the importance of respect for yourself and the people around you.

Tom’s passing leaves an irreplaceable void, but we can honor his memory by supporting the family he cherished so deeply. If you’re able, any contribution—no matter how small—would mean the world in helping them navigate this difficult time.

Thank you for keeping Tom’s spirit alive in your hearts.

Rest easy, Tom. May the sunsets always be golden, the storms always roll in just right, and the road always lead somewhere interesting.
